Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าภูวัว Phu Wan Wildlife Sanctuary has an area of 186.5 square km. It is in Amphoe Bung Kan and Amphoe Se-Ka. The sanctuary is at the northeastern, most corner of the northeast, about 2 km. from the border, The average elevation is 150-300 meters. The soil is sandy in some parts, laterite and clay in others. There are both wet and dry jungles in the area. Wildlife here includes elephants, tigers, leopards, bears, pheasants, monkeys and gibbons. The animals are in a thick jungle area of only 40 square km. thus hindering reproductin. Places of interest are : - Fun Cave-To the north of the sanctuary, the cave of-fers a cool atmosphere and the refreshing Fun Cave waterfall. There are countless deer and wild rabbits in the area. - Eastern side of the sanctuary - Water - eroded rock formations of peculiar shapes are the stars here. The high elevation of 330 meters gives quests a good look of nearby mountains and even those in Laos. - Cha-naen Waterfall - A well-known waterfall of the province, Cha-naen waterfall can be reached via a natural stone bridge set amidst huge boulders. A small lake, Bung Chanaen, has a large trees along the banks and is a pollible refuge of some crocodiles. The waterfall itself is a large on falling down from many rocks. The fine sand around the fall makes the site ideal form camping. - Chan Pha Cave - a small cave 500 meters from the stone bridge. - Sa-am Waterfall - A beautiful waterfall with rock ridges and walls. You can get to the sanctuary by bus No.4193 which goes every hour from Nong Khai and No.244 goes every 45 minute from Udorn Thani. There are 2 main trekking routes in the sanctuary the Bung Kan - Hua Phu route (pass the sanctuary headquarters) is 36.4 km., the Bung Kan - Chanaen waterfall route is 76.1 km. |
