Ku Santarat กู่สันตรัตน์ This archaeological site was constructed of sand stone in Bayana style of art during Lop Buri period approximately from 1107-1157 A.D. during the reign of King Chaiya Woraman VII, the last emperor of the Khmer Kingdom. The construction was made for the use as Celestial Place of Worship and Buddhistic Place of Worship surrounding with sand stone cloister of 1.5 meters high while the Ku itself is approximately 10 meters high. The 7th Fine Arts Unit made excavation in the year 1971 and found many pieces of archaeological objects such as sand stone Buddha images, one in the attitude of multi-headed naga's protection (Nag Prog), and another is Watcharathon Bodhisattava, etc. Its location is in Tambon Ku Santarat, Amphoe Nadun. To reach there, one can go along Highway No.2040 passing Amphoe Kae Dam, Amphoe Wapipathum, then, make a right turn to join Highway No.2045 (to Amphoe Nadun) for a distance of about one kilometer where one can see the Ku on the right hand side. |
