General Information
Phu Lang Ka Forest Park located in Chaing Kham District and Pong District, Pa Yao Province, situated in Nam Puey National Reserved Forest, Nam Yuan Forest, Nam Lao Forest and Mae Yom National Reserved Forest, covered the area of 7,800 rais. The Royal Forest Department was delacred this forest park on May 8, 2002.
Topography
It is a high mountain of San Pan Nam Mountain Range laid from eastward to westward. It is about 900-1,720 metres above the average sea level. Its important river is Ka River that flows through the southern part, Nam Tom Stream and Mae Ru River which are flowing to the southwestern Ru River , Kha Naeng Stream and Pah Yang Stream that are flowing to northern Lao River. Flora and Fauna
About 63% of the area is consisting of the Hill Evergreen Forest and the Evergreen Forest located on the river bank. Dominant flora species found consist of Fagaceae genus such as Castanopsis acuminates, Castanopsis tribuloides, Castonopsis diversifofia, Castanopisi indica and Castanopsis armata, including TALO, Styrax benzoides, PAYA SEU KRONG and Betula alnoides. About 21% of the clear forest consist of dominant flora species like TALO, Fagaceae genus, Engelhardtia spicata, Callicarpa arborea, Eriolaena candollei and Albizia chinensis. The grass land has been found 16% of the area. Its flora species recorded consist of Imperata cylindrical, Saccharum spontaneum, Gramineae sp., Saccharum arundinaceum, Ageratum conyzoides, and so on. In the past the slope closed to the peak used to be the opium field. Presently, it has been left to natural replacement and also establishing to be the A1 watershed area where is generating the water to the Mea Yom
River.
Fauna found consist of barking deer, wild pig, serrow, bay bamboo rat, lesser mouse deer, treeshrew, squirrel, tiger, leopard, bear, civet, palm civet and several bird and reptile
species.
Doi Hua Ling
Doi Hua Ling if you view it from the north or south, you will see its peak is like monkeys head that turning to the east. On its western part, it consists of the Hill Evergreen Forest. On the eastern part, there will be high cliff covered with grasses. It is windy here. The land is fairy dry and doesnt have much land space, therefore it is suitable for appreciating the misty ocean and
sunrise.
Doi Phu Nom
Doi Phu Nom is narrow mountain ridge where is sloped down from the Doi Phu Lang Ka. It is the mountain where is lacking of trees. It is covered with grasses and fairy windy up there on the peak. You can appreciate the panoramic scenery especially the misty ocean, sunrise and
sunset.
Doi Phu Lang Ka
Doi Phu Lang Ka is a narrow mountain ridge. Its western part is the Hill Evergreen Forest and the eastern part is the high cliff covered with grass. It is very windy there. You can go up to the top to see a beautiful sunrise and the misty ocean early in the morning. Beside, you can even see the Laos PDR from here as
well.

How to go?
By Car
There are 3 routes accessible to the Phu Lang Ka Forest Park:
From Chiang Rai town, you can take the Highway no. 1148 to Therng District which will take 64 kms long. From Therng to Chiang Kham is 26 kms and drive further to Ban Tung Lom Yai Sub-district which will take about 8 kms. After that, turn left northward to Ban Hae which takes about 12 kms. Then turn right for 5 kms and turn left northward for about 12 kms to reach the forest park. Hence, the total distance from the Chiang Rai town to the forest park is 127
kms.
Take the Highway no. 1092 from Payao town drive pass Pong District to the junction heading to Chiang Kham. This will take about 104 kms. After that drive further for about 3 kms on the Highway no. 1148. Then turn left northward for about 12 kms to reach the forest park. The total distance is 119
kms.
Take the Highway no. 1080 from Muang Nan District to Tha Wang Pha District which will take about 13 kms. Drive northwards and turn right to Song Thaew on the Highway no. 1148. This will take about 33 kms. From Song Thaew to Chiang Kham you can drive further for about 71 kms to reach the forest park. The total distance from Muang Nan to the forest park is 147
kms.
